Economics Creative Competition
To celebrate HASS Week 2023, and promote the study of Economics and Business, the Economics Teachers’ Association of Western Australia is running an Economics-themed creative competition. The creations should be based on this year’s theme that relates to the current economic climate:
- The rising cost of living
Any school teaching the Western Australian Humanities and Social Sciences Curriculum, or the ATAR Economics Course, is invited to submit a total of up to three student-created entries.
Format
Students can submit their creative piece in any of the following formats:
- Cartoon
- Infographic
- Poster
- Painting or Drawing
- Video (30 seconds maximum)
- Song (30 seconds maximum)
- Poem
- Model (must submit at least 3 clear images of the model)
Age Divisions
There are four age divisions:
- Years 5 and 6
- Years 7 and 8
- Year 9 and 10
- Year 11 and 12
Prizes
There is a $200 first prize for the best entry for each division. There are two $50 runner-up prizes for each division. The judges’
decision will be based on:
- demonstrated understanding of Economics concepts
- effective commentary or critique relating to a current economic issue
- effective communication of the current economic issue
- year level of the student(s) who created the creative piece
- originality
In the case where the winning entry has been created by a group of students, the $200 will be shared on an equal basis between the group
members.
Submitting your entry
The teacher coordinating this competition at each school is required to submit the entries as attachments to a single email to executive@etawa.asn.au. The subject of the email should be: ETAWA cartoon competition <insert school name>.
Entries must be received by 4 pm Monday May 8 2023.
Schools with a winning entry will be notified by email during Week 8 Term 2, 2023.
The Economics Teachers’ Association of Western Australia reserves the right to use any winning or highly commended entries as it chooses in the aim of further promoting the study of Economics in the senior secondary years.
